Dead Rising: Watchtower, the original movie based on Capcom’s zombie series that skipped a theatrical release, will be available to buy or rent through most major digital platforms across the world on July 1.
Watchtower was initially released back in March by way of Sony’s Crackle streaming service. It follows Chase Carter, a reporter played by John Tucker Must Die‘s Jesse Metcalfe. He’s looking for a story, but finds himself in the midst of a horrific zombie outbreak.
Some fans were critical of the movie skipping a theatrical release, but director Zach Lipovsky (Leprechaun: Origins) says a smaller budget comes with the freedom to be more experimental.
“Online there is no ratings board, there is no run time limit, there are no rules,” he said back in October. “This is an experiment for Legendary, and they have been incredibly willing to take creative risks. Every crazy idea I’ve had has been met with excitement.”
