Minecraft Sells 20M on PC; New Console Patch Lets You Flatten the World

As Mojang prepares to release an update bringing the console version of Minecraft more in line with the PC version, the game has reached a new sales milestone on computers: 20 million copies sold.

The game’s official website features a counter showing the number of people who have bought the PC/Mac version of the game. That figured topped 20 million earlier today, the same number that the Xbox 360 and Xbox One versions combined to reach last month.

Mojang’s Patrick Geuder tweeted out the picture above, showing several Mojang employees commemorating the occasion with their phones.

By chance, Mojang today announced details about DLC and a patch coming to the console versions of Minecraft tomorrow. The update will bring all console versions up to version 1.17/TU25/CU14, providing new blocks and items, as well as the ability to customize the verticality of new worlds, allowing you to flatten them if you so desire. Other new features detailed on Mojang’s blog include a way to modify options like difficulty and game mode without leaving the game, as well as the classic crafting system from the Java version of Minecraft.

As for DLC, the Minecon 2015 skin pack is coming for free to all console platforms. It’ll go live tomorrow, July 1, and be available for only 15 days.

The other DLC is a new LittleBigPlanet mash-up pack that brings creatures, music, textures, and (super-creepy-looking) characters from the platformer series. As you’d expect, despite Mojang being owned by Microsoft, this DLC is exclusive to the PlayStation versions of the game.
