Watch These Ridiculously Good Rocket League Players Go 1-on-1

Rocket League is a simple game to understand and play–it’s soccer with cars. But, like with real sports, there are subtleties to it that offer players ways to be truly exceptional, something that’s amply demonstrated in the video below.

The video (shared on Twitter by Sony’s Nick Suttner) shows a 1-on-1 match between two exceptional players, Gambit and Kronovi. Unfortunately, the audio is somewhat out of sync with the video (which is blamed on the PS4‘s streaming app), but it’s not bad enough to detract from the masterful display of skill. There’s a sequence of aerial hits and saves at around the 4:48 mark, in particular, that blew my mind.

If you’re under the impression that you’re good at Rocket League and want to continue to think so, you may want to avoid watching. Otherwise, it’s definitely worth a look–you may be able to pick up some tricks, though I personally can’t imagine being able to pull off some of these shots or juggle the ball so effectively. Rocket League launched last week on PC and PS4. PlayStation Plus members can download the PS4 version for free this month, and it’s proven to be wildly popular so far–its concurrent player record sits at 155,000 players, with 3 million players across both systems. Server issues marred the game’s launch, something that developer Psyonix has attributed in part to the strong response. The game’s first premium DLC is on the way later this month, with free DLC maps also coming to the game along with other new content to make amends for the server problems.
