Intrepid tinkerers have discovered a way to stream Xbox One games to the PC via the Windows 10 Xbox app at a higher quality than Microsoft made available by default.

Found by a Reddit user and further explained on NeoGAF, the method allows stream quality to surpass the “high” setting and display content at a “very high” quality. Naturally, this puts much greater strain on the user’s internet connection, so mileage may vary depending on bandwidth.

The necessary steps are detailed below.

• Ensure the Xbox App on Windows 10 is closed
• Open File Explorer, then copy and paste the following location: C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Packages\
• Scroll down and open the “Microsoft.XboxApp…” folder
• Then open the folder LocalState
• Right click the “userconsoledata” file, select Open With and pick Notepad
• Change <IsInternalPreview>false</IsInternalPreview> to <IsInternalPreview>true</IsInternalPreview>
• Open the Xbox App and stream from console. Click the ((o)) button in and select the “Very High” option.
