Earlier this week, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said Microsoft might announce the next batch of Xbox 360 games playable on Xbox One through backwards compatibility this week. But that’s not going to happen.
“I apologize,” Spencer said Friday evening on Twitter to a fan who asked if the news was still coming this week. “Looks like backwards compatibility news is delayed and will likely come next week. Again, sorry for the delay.”
Backwards compatibility is currently available on Xbox One for Preview Program members only. It will roll out to everyone in November, at which time there will be more than 100 available games. In addition, all future Xbox 360 Games With Gold titles will be backwards-compatible starting in November.
In July, Criterion Games said it would like to bring Burnout Paradise to Xbox One, while Ubisoft has also talked about bringing some of its back-catalog titles to the new platform. In addition, Electronic Arts recently said it’s interested in bringing some Xbox 360 games to Xbox One through EA Access.
Fans also really want Red Dead Redemption to be made playable on Xbox One. With more than 87,000 votes, Rockstar’s 2010 western action game sits near the top of Microsoft’s most-requested backwards compatibility voting page, behind only Call of Duty: Black Ops II.
For now, you can check out this list of all the Xbox 360 games playable on Xbox One through backwards compatibility.
In other backwards compatible news, Spencer also said this week that this feature may one day be extended to original Xbox games, though he made no promises.
