Dark Souls and Bloodborne Developer Opening Second Studio

From Software, the studio behind the Demon’s and Dark Souls series, as well as PlayStation 4 exclusive Bloodborne, is set to expand by opening a new studio.

The studio will be established in October 2015 in Fukuoka, Japan. It will begin operation in January 2016, focusing primarily on “creating 3D CG assets.”

“From Software has been actively developing video games for various platforms and they will continue to do so,” the studio said in a statement. “The establishment of the new studio will expand their development capabilities to create globally competitive products.”

It continued: “The Fukuoka studio will focus on creating 3D CG assets for games while working closely with the original studio in Tokyo.”

Discussing its decision to establish a base in Fukuoka, the studio said it “has high hopes that these high-potential areas contribute to build good development environments that lead them to greater quality and creativity.”

From Software’s current projects include DLC for Bloodborne, as well as Dark Souls 3., which will launch in Japan on March 24, 2016 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

It is unclear exactly when the game will be available in Europe and North America.

Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls, and Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki has said From Software would like to explore more genres and ideas with new properties in the future. Read our full interview, in which he says Dark Souls 3 is a turning point for the series.
