All Rainbow Six Siege DLC Maps Will Be Free

In what is becoming a trend, Ubisoft on Wednesday announced that all post-launch DLC maps for Rainbow Six Siege will be offered for free. The developer also cleared up some confusion regarding the total number of maps available on day one and teased that it has even more expansion plans to announce later.

“At launch, Rainbow Six Siege will have 11 maps, playable both day or night, all using the full potential of our Real Blast destruction technology,” the publisher said in a statement, “In addition, all post-launch maps will be downloadable for free. We want players to stay with us for the long term and have ambitious post-launch plans that we will detail at a later stage.”

All DLC maps for monster-hunting game Evolve are also free. Meanwhile, 343 Industries has announced that it will launch at least 15 free DLC maps for Halo 5: Guardians by June 2016. In all cases, developers said they are making maps free to avoid dividing players into groups of those who do and do not own them. This has increasingly become a problem for shooters over the years.

Siege was originally slated to launch in October, but it was recently delayed to December for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. The game’s upcoming beta, meanwhile, is still scheduled to begin on September 24. Sign-up details are available here.

Ubisoft has high hopes for Siege, as the publisher said back in May that the game has the potential to become the company’s best-selling FPS ever, surpassing Far Cry 4. At the time, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said the game’s replayability “will be key to the game’s success.”
