How Destiny’s Xur Is Changing With The Taken King

Xur, the vendor who sells Exotic items and other desirable goodies in Destiny, will appear for the first time tomorrow since the launch of The Taken King on Tuesday. Much like many other aspects of the game, he, too, will be different in Year Two.

Today’s Bungie Weekly Update, along with delivering a teaser trailer for the King’s Fall raid, details the changes to Xur. “In Year One, Xur was a community ‘loot drop,’ a shared rallying point that everyone could cheer or curse,” said senor design lead Tyson Green. “In Year Two, Xur’s offerings have been changed so that he will select either a specific Exotic Weapon or an Exotic Engram for sale every week.

They still haven’t done anything about the smell under his hood

“This change is due primarily to our desire to give players more direct paths to acquiring the Exotics they want through Quests and gameplay experiences, and to avoid repetition in his inventory.”

Xur will also now sell the Three of Coins. As previously detailed, this is a new consumable item which, when used, increases the likelihood of an Exotic item dropping from your next boss kill.

And finally, Xur will offer a Legacy Engram each week. “These Engrams contain Year One Exotics (at Year One Attack and Defense levels) for players who want to finish up a Collection,” Green explained. “They strongly bias towards Exotics not already in your Blueprint Collection, to help fill in the blank slots.”

Two specific weapons, Mythoclast and Necrochasm, however, will not be available through Legacy Engrams–you’ll still need to hunt them down just as you did prior to The Taken King and Destiny’s big 2.0 update.
