New Metal Gear Solid 5 PS4 Save Bug Reported

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain received glowing praise at launch earlier this month, but the stealth-action game has not been without its issues. Now, another has emerged. This one involves broken save files when users attempt to play The Phantom Pain on PlayStation 4 with multiple accounts on one console.

In certain circumstances, playing The Phantom Pain on a PS4 with multiple Sony Entertainment Network accounts linked to it can result in the error message, “This save data cannot be used, as the relevant downloadable content was not found.” In this scenario, it’s impossible to launch the game.

For now, Konami recommends using only a single SEN account per PS4. This is far from ideal, but the company says it’s working on a more permanent solution and will announce further details later.

GameSpot first encountered this issue when The Phantom Pain launched earlier this month. At the time, we believed it might have been an isolated incident. But this image, supplied by a GameSpot contact, suggests otherwise. We’ll have more details on this issue and the fix as they become available.

The Phantom Pain may mark the end of an era for the Metal Gear Solid franchise, as series creator Hideo Kojima is expected to exit publisher Konami due to reported strife between his team and the publisher. In addition, a recent report claimed Konami was mostly exiting the AAA gaming business, but a Konami developer has since said that “don’t believe everything you read in the press.”

Looking ahead, The Phantom Pain is slated to grow in October with the release of the game’s traditional multiplayer mode Metal Gear Online.
