Microsoft has issued a new statement to warn Xbox One owners who preordered Halo 5: Guardians that they might have actually downloaded the wrong file. People who digitally preordered the game before September 21 and are not using the console’s Instant On power mode might have downloaded a “stub file.” As Microsoft explains, this is only a placeholder file, not the full version of the game.

People who downloaded this stub file will need to delete it and reinstall the right one. You can check to see if you installed the stub file by following the instructions below:

1. Go to My games & apps
2. Sort your game collection by selecting Installed à Sort by size
3. If your Halo 5: Guardians game size is greater than 40 GB, you’ve got the correct version
4. If your Halo 5: Guardians game size is less than 40 GB, you’ve got an incorrect stub file.

This issue does not appear to be very widespread, as Microsoft said only a “small number of players” are likely to be impacted.

The Halo 5 release date is set for October 27. In other news, Microsoft is holding a six-hour New Year’s Eve-style countdown event on October 26 to celebrate the game’s release. On top of that, you can now listen to the game’s entire soundtrack, which goes on sale on October 30 across four different versions.
