An Old Hunter’s Arsenal (So Far)

The new Bloodborne expansion, The Old Hunters, is filled with all sorts of new and exciting trick weapons to add to your arsenal. But if you want to use them, you’re going to have to find them. Luckily, we’ve been able to discover many of the expansion’s new weapons in our own playthrough. Join us as we show you each one we’ve seen so far and where they’re located. We’ll be updating this gallery as we discover more weapons, so be sure to keep checking back! (CAUTION: This gallery contains slight story spoilers!)

Beast Cutter

Description: The Beast Cutter is a thick iron cleaver that becomes a heavy whip when its trick functionality is activated. Think the main campaign’s Threaded Cane, but heavier.

Location: This weapon can be found at the long staircase leading up to the Nightmare Cathedral. As you go up, you can spot it to your left on the dead hunter surrounded by Beast Patients.

Boom Hammer

Description: This trick weapon is a giant hammer with a miniature furnace attached to it that, when ignited, creates a devastating blast of fire upon impact.

Location: In the Hunter’s Nightmare, you can find the Boom Hammer in the house that served as the shortcut leading to the Cleric Beast in the original game. It’s on the bottom floor on a dead hunter next to a man in a wheelchair.

Gatling Gun

Description: The Gatling Gun is exactly what its name suggests: a brutal left-handed firearm capable of rapid-fire functionality. Be weary, this one can easily burn through your supply of Quicksilver Bullets if you’re reckless.

Location: As you wander the Hunter’s Nightmare, you’ll find a fork in the road outside the Cleric Beast shortcut house mentioned in the previous slide. Take the path to the right to get to a dark cave where a hunter wielding the Gatling Gun is prowling about. Kill him and the weapon is yours to keep.

Amygdalan Arm

Description: This weapon is one of the arms of Bloodborne boss Amygdala. It’s primarily used as a club-like weapon, but when extended, it can be used as a quivering scythe with a life of its own.

Location: You can find the Amygdalan Arm in Hunter’s Nightmare in the dark cave where the Gatling Gun hunter is in the previous slide. It’s on the body of the dead hunter leaning against a wall.

Whirligig Saw

Description: The Whirligig Saw acts as a mace in its initial form, but when its trick mode is activated, it attaches to mechanical saw discs that can shread enemies to bits.

Location: You can find the Whirligig Saw by taking the path leading downstairs from the Nightmare Church. When you reach an area with bloody pools below, drop down and keep going further until you find it on a dead hunter.

Beasthunter Saif

Description: This weapon is an old hunter version of the Saw Cleaver and Saw Spear seen in the original game. It functions in the same way, swinging fast when retracted and slower when extended.

Location: After passing the Nightmare Cathedral in the Hunter’s Nightmare, you’ll encounter an area with crows and an enemy hunter. Climb the ladder located nearby, but instead of advancing further, drop down to the lower area and grab the weapon from the dead hunter.

Holy Moonlight Sword

Description: This weapon seems like a normal two-handed sword at first. However, when you acitvate its trick functionality, the sword becomes imbued with a blue energy, increasing its power. When in this state, you can use your Quicksilver bullets to make it shoot a projectile wave when you swing it with the strong attack button.

Location: The Holy Moonlight Sword can be found by returning to the boss fight area of Ludwig the Accursed. If you look to the left of the staircase there, you can find the creature’s disembodied head. Kill him to receive the Holy Moonlight Sword. Alternatively, if you’re wearing a church chest piece, he’ll give you the sword if you accept his offer. But if you refuse him, you can go back to this location to find an NPC who’ll also give you the sword.

Fist of Gratia

Description: The Fist of Gratia is a chunk of iron with finger holes that you can equip on to your left-hand to punch enemies. While it lacks power, it does have the ability to instantly stagger regardless of the attack animation they’re in.

Location: This weapon is found in one of the locked prison cells you encounter in the Hunter’s Nightmare after the Ludwig, the Holy Blade boss fight. To unlock the cell, you must use the Underground Cell Key, which you can find on one of the dead bodies in a darkly lit side room of the Research Hall.

Church Cannon

Description: The Church Cannon is a left-handed weapon that fires a powerful shell that causes an explosion upon impact. Since it shoots at a curved trajectory, it requires careful and precise aiming to use effectively.

Location: The Church Cannon can be found by taking the secret elevator at the surgery altar in the Research Hall. To activate the altar’s secret elevator, use the Eye Pendant* and pull the lever beside it. This will take you to an underground room with a large brown chest containing the weapon.

(*Important Note: You can get the Eye Pendant by defeating the Flaming Cleric Beast at the Nightmare Cathedral.)

Simon’s Bowblade

Description: While it appears as a large curved blade at first, this trick weapon can actually transform into a bow and arrow. But be mindful, using this mode consumes Quicksilver Ammo.

Location: You can obtain Simon’s Bowblade after going through the Harrowed Hunter’s quest line and answering the first option at the Hunter’s Nightmare shortcut. He will then appear at the Lighthouse Hut lantern in the Fishing Hamlet where you can talk to him to get the weapon.

Kos Parasite

Description: The Kos Parasite can do nothing by itself, but if you equip the Milkweed Rune* alongside it, it’ll transform you into a hybrid Squid-like creature with unique sets of attacks.

(*Important Note: The Milkweed Rune can be found by completing a quest from an NPC in the Research Hall. She’ll ask you for Brain Fluid items, which can be found around the area. Find them and give them to her. After the second Brain Fluid you give her, she’ll turn into a blob and want one more. But to get the last Brain Fluid, you need to kill her. Once you’ve done so, return to her location and she’ll be alive again. Give her the third Brain Fluid and she’ll give you the Milkweed Rune.)

Location: You instantly get this weapon after defeating the Orphan of Kos at the Lighthouse Hut in the Fishing Hamlet.

Rakuyo

Description: The Rakuyo is a double bladed sword that swings like a basic one-handed sword. Its trick functionality splits it into a sword and dagger for a quicker succession of attacks.

Location: Climb down the ladder at the well in the Fishing Hamlet to find a Frog Giant. Kill it and another one will spawn in its place some moments later. Once you’ve killed the second Giant Frog, it’ll drop the Rakuyo.

Bloodletter

Description: The Bloodletter is a simple battle mace that becomes stronger when it’s allowed to consume the blood and soul of its user. At the cost of some health, the weapon will become an extended version of itself, complete with a blood covered spiked ball on its end.

Location: You can obtain the Bloodletter by killing Brador in his prison cell in the Hunter’s Nightmare. To get to him, you need to unlock his prison cell with the Underground Cell Inner Chamber Key. You can get this key quickly by talking to the Harrowed Hunter, answering the first option at his first shortcut in the Hunter’s Nightmare, and then meeting him at the Lighthouse Hut lantern in the Fishing Hamlet.

Loch Shield

Description: The Loch Shield is the game’s only other left-handed defensive weapon besides the Wooden Shield. It greatly reduces physical damage inflicted by enemies.

Location: It can be first seen in the Research Hall when you enter a platform with one of the crawling experiments, but you can reach it after raising the stairs and dropping down to the staircase leading to its location.
