League of Legends World Championships Brings in 4.2 Million Average Concurrent Viewers

League of Legends developer Riot Games recently announced its viewership numbers from this year’s World Championships.

Over the course of four weeks, the event brought in 334 million unique views. On average, the games saw 4.2 million concurrent viewers with the average fan tuning in for at least an hour. The World Championship Final raked in 14 million concurrent viewers, a jump from 11 million from last year’s finals. For reference, the 2015 NBA finals between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers averaged 19.94 million viewers on ABC.

“It’s been an extraordinary, history-making year to be an esports fan and it’s an honor that the dedication and passion of LoL fans has such a significant place within that story,” said Whalen Rozelle, the director of esports at Riot. “We can’t think of a better way to head into the 2016 season and to celebrate with so many of this year’s key playmakers at the All Star Event this week.”
