Hideo Kojima and Sony Partner For New PlayStation-Exclusive Game

Following rumors that Kojima was forming a new studio, a video posted on the PlayStation YouTube account has confirmed the Metal Gear Solid creator’s next move. The video features President of Sony Computer Entertainment Andrew House announcing “a new partnership with one of the most celebrated game developers in history.”

Hideo Kojima will be working alongside Sony in the creation of his new game and says that he’s “thrilled to embark on creating a new franchise.” Meanwhile, Kojima revealed in a tweet on Wednesday that his contract with Konami has ended. He said he’s “committed to be involved in creative activities for as long as [he lives].”

Kojima’s new studio is called Kojima Productions, which was the name of his studio while he worked for Konami. No news has been revealed about his future game, other than a tweet from journalist Geoff Keighley, who announced the project will be a console exclusive to PlayStation.

This follows months of news about Kojima’s status with his ex-employer Konami. Keighley revealed at The Game Awards that lawyers were keeping Kojima from attending the show, at which his game Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain won Best Score/Soundtrack and Best Action/Adventure game. And when it was reported that he had left the company back in November, Konami denied the claims, saying he was on vacation.
