Deadline reports today that the movie raked in $238 million in first-weekend US ticket sales, though the site’s sources are saying “it’s much higher than that.” Whatever the case, $238 million is well above the previous US record-holder, Jurassic World, which made $208.8 million during its opening.

“Our sole focus has been creating a film that delivers that one-of-a-kind Star Wars experience, and director J.J. Abrams, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, and the Lucasfilm team have outdone themselves,” Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn said in a release. “To all of the fans around the world who not only came out in Force to make this such an exciting and astronomical debut but who treated this film as their own and helped preserve the experience for their fellow fans by not spoiling it–thank you, we do.”

Keep in mind that these are just US numbers. Globally, The Force Awakens has now made over $517 million.
