Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens is doing extremely well at the box office. This past weekend it became the number 3 top grossing movie of all time. While it’s possible there may be some people that still haven’t seen the movie and others planning to continue to watch it over and over, it’s not too early to start thinking about Episode VIII.
John Boyega, who played Finn in The Force Awakens, recently talked to Vogue about being able to openly talk about spoilers from the movie and teased some information about the next film.
You could imagine what it must have been like to keep plot details to himself. Boyega is relieved he can now speak freely about events from the end of The Force Awakens.
“It feels good. But now, we’re just starting work on Star Wars VIII, the next film, so I’m back to keeping secrets again. It’s great. Much darker, but we’re very excited.”
The Force Awakens had a bit of a dark ending, but the movie did contain plenty of humor with some of the character interactions.
Now that the characters and story have been set up, we’ll get to see what’s next for the New Order and Supreme Leader Snoke.
Boyega was also asked about how extensive his preparation for the lightsaber scenes were.
“No, for this film we really just took it scene by scene, there wasn’t a huge regime. My part in the next film will be much more physical so I might be in the gym a bit more.”
We’ll have to wait and see what sort of injuries he sustained from the end of The Force Awakens, but it sounds like he’ll be back in the fight in no time.
Star Wars Episode VIII is scheduled for theaters on May 26, 2017.
