The Division has sold through more copies in its first 24 hours than any other game in Ubisoft’s history. The company announced the news in a press release today, which said the multiplayer shooter also set Ubisoft digital sales records across its available platforms.
Although Ubisoft said The Division is its fastest-selling game ever, the company did not provide any further information on the exact number of copies sold or the sales records mentioned. We’ve reached out to Ubisoft for comment and will update this story as we receive more details.
Ubisoft Massive managing director David Polfeldt said the studio is “extremely happy” with The Division’s launch. He also mentioned that it “represents Ubisoft at its best,” saying it was developed by Massive and its associate studios “working at maximum capacity in highly-productive collaboration.”
Ubisoft notes that–based on NPD numbers, GFK Chart Track, and internal estimates–it has produced three of the top four most successful new game launches in history–The Division, Watch Dogs, and Assassin’s Creed stand alongside Destiny for that honor.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot says this demonstrates the company’s “unrivalled capacity” to create new franchises and “transform them into entertainment blockbusters.”
“This is a momentous day for Ubisoft, but more importantly it marks the start of millions of players’ enduring engagement in The Division’s game world, which we are confident they will love,” Guillemot said.
