[UPDATE] Following its big Thursday night opening, Batman v Superman continues to break box office records. Deadline reports that the movie made an estimated $82 million on Friday in the US, beating Furious 7‘s $67.4 million, which was the previous record. It’s also on pace to set a new weekend record, taking in $170 million, topping The Hunger Games ($152.5 million).

Additionally, the film is poised to pass Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 ($169.2 million) to become the best opening of all time for Warner Bros.

Keep checking back this weekend for more on updates on Batman v Superman‘s box office performance.

The original story is below.

Despite a lukewarm critical reception, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice enjoyed a strong showing for its Thursday night opening. The movie brought in $27.7 million domestically, setting a new record for a Thursday night before Easter, eclipsing Furious 7, which made $15.8 million on the same night in 2015.

Furious 7 went on to make $67.4 million on Good Friday last year and $147.2 million for the full weekend. We will report back when Batman v Superman‘s Friday and weekend numbers are in.

Batman v Superman‘s Thursday night US opening is nowhere near the all-time Thursday debut, however, as Disney’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens made a whopping $57 million on December 17, 2015.

According to Variety, which supplied the box office numbers, Batman v Superman had a budget of $250 million. It is projected to make as much as $150 million this weekend, which, if it does, would put it past Furious 7 to become the best US Easter weekend movie ever.

The current record-holder for overall best US March opening is the first Hunger Games movie, which made $152.5 million in March 2012.
