New Star Fox Zero Trailer Shows Transforming Specialized Vehicles

Nintendo has released a new trailer for Star Fox Zero, the upcoming Wii U title developed by Platinum Games, the studio behind Bayonetta 2 and The Wonderful 101. The video shows off the various way players can complete a level, which includes using specialised vehicles.

Although gameplay starts with the Star Fox team in their Arwings, the trailer goes on to show off the Walker, a bipedal assault vehicle for confined spaces environments. Following this we get a look at the Gyrowing, an AI-equipped hovercopter with “utility purposes.” Finally, there’s also the ground-to-air heavy artillery tank, the Landmaster, which can also transform and fly for as long as the boost meter lasts.

The video also shows off how both the Wii U GamePad screen and the TV can be used at the same time, with the former offering a cockpit view of the action, and the latter providing a broader perspective. The GamePad can also be used to control the Gyrowing’s on-board AI.

Nintendo has confirmed the Star Fox Zero release date as April 21 in North America and April 22 in Europe. Project Guard, the Star Fox-themed minigame from E3 2014, has also finally been revealed as a standalone project.

Both games will be bundled together at retail for $60. The titles will be available separately as a digital download; the main standalone game will cost $50 while Guard on its own will cost $15. Project Guard stars a new character, Slippy Toad’s uncle, who is called Grippy.
