This week’s Destiny livestream–the third and final one before the launch of the big April update next week–tackled the subject of balance changes. Weapons are being reworked in a way that should have a big impact on Crucible, and we’ve now gotten some more insight into what changes are being made and why.
Senior designer Jon Weisnewski runs down the changes in a new post on Bungie’s website. This includes those being made across the board to weapon classes and those that affect only specific weapons.
The basic overview was covered during the stream earlier this week; sniper rifles take slightly longer to zoom in, players will start Crucible matches with special weapon ammo, resurrecting allies takes longer and provides less of an overshield, and so on.
Weisnewski’s post runs down all of these, detailing the precise changes being made and offering an explanation for what motivated them. We even get some fancy charts showing off hard data, like how the MIDA Multi-Tool scout rifle has soared in popularity over the last few months, and how the 1000-Yard Stare sniper rifle has proven wildly popular going back to the launch of The Taken King in September.
You can head over to Bungie’s site to get all the details. Hardcore Crucible fans will want to prepare for what awaits them next week, but even if you’re more of a casual fan, you can still see what weapons of yours will be affected. Weisnewski makes the complicated subject of weapon balancing an interesting read.
The big update launches for all platforms on Tuesday, April 12. Full patch notes will arrive on the same day; Bungie community manager David Dague said on Twitter today that we haven’t yet “been told everything” about what the patch includes. What we do know is coming are new weapons, changes to reputation gains and rewards, a Light level increase, more missions, and a whole lot more.
