Weekly Recap: Nintendo NX Release Date, Zelda Delay, PS4 Sells 40 Million, Next Call of Duty Revealed

Not This Year

Nintendo announced this week that the NX, or whatever it ends up being called, will launch in March 2017. Some had believed it would be out this year. [Full story + roundup]

Next Year

The new Legend of Zelda is no longer coming to the Wii U alone. Nintendo announced this week that the game will now launch across Wii U and NX in 2017. The game will be playable at E3 in June for the first time. No word yet on if Zelda will be an NX launch title or what differences exist between the two versions. [Full story + roundup]

40 Million And Counting

Sony announced earnings this week, revealing that PlayStation 4 sales grew for a third straight year. The company has now shipped some 40 million systems and Sony is confident it can sell more in the next financial year, despite setbacks from the recent earthquakes. [Full story]

Leaky

A PlayStation Store listing that popped up early this week revealed that Call of Duty: Infinite War may be the name of this year’s entry from Infinity Ward. Another leak suggested that a remaster of the fan-favorite Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare may be on the way. All should be confirmed soon, as Activision typically makes its Call of Duty announcements in late April/early May. [Full story]

Battlefield 5 Is Coming

EA and developer DICE will officially announce the next Battlefield game on May 6, the companies announced this week. The game is expected out this fall, but we don’t know anything about it yet. [Full story]

National Hug A Plumber Day

Did you know it was National Hug a Plumber Day on Monday? It totally was. And to celebrate, Sega released a silly video in which Sonic “hugs” Mario. Check it out.

Unofficially Awesome

Someone has made an Uncharted 4 video modeled after the Suicide Squad trailer and it’s so good that even the game’s director has spoken out to praise it.

Post-Apocalyptic Pranks

The Division Criticized

A former Sony dev has spoken out to criticize the PC verison of Ubisoft’s The Division, slamming the game’s networking features specifically. You can read the full breakdown here.

Almost Done

The Gears of War 4 beta is almost over! You have until Sunday, May 1 to play. After that, your next shot will probably be when the game launches in October. Go, go, go.

New Earth Opens Soon

The Mass Effect 4D Ride, New Earth, will open its doors at California’s Great America amusement park on May 18, the company has announced.

Another Clue

Although Activision has yet to formally announced this year’s Call of Duty game, one support studio, Elite 3D, has come forward to say it’s helping Infinity Ward with it. Elite 3D has worked on big-name games like Hitman and Need for Speed Undercover.

Improving

Twitter is beefing up its anti-harassment measures by implementing a stronger, more feature-rich harassment reporting tool. Get all the details here at Polygon.

Big Gold Increase

World of Warcraft’s upcoming expansion Legion will increase the game’s Gold cap substantially, it has been confirmed. It’s rising to 9,999,999, according to the Warcraft Devs Twitter page.

HideoTube Returns

The latest installment in the HideoTube video series was posted this week. In this video, Hideo Kojima visits the “Game On” exhibit to try to find out “why are video games so interesting?” Watch it here.

Duelyst Has Landed

Counterplay’s collectible tactics game Duelyst has arrived. The free game can be downloaded here on its website for PC and Mac. What’s Duelyst all about?

“Duelyst brings together the depth of tactical combat with the endless possibilities of collectible card games, in matches that last between five to ten minutes,” reads a line from its description. “The game offers players a living game that focuses on thoughtful decision-making and rewards players with new battle units every regular season.”
