Pokemon Sun and Moon‘s Legendaries and gameplay were revealed today, and now we know the details of the announced QR code feature, thanks to the game’s official website. The 3DS uses its built-in camera to scan the codes, which then give you information about Pokemon via your in-game Pokedex.
The QR code scanner can be used to find out where Pokemon live in the Alola region. This can be useful for players who haven’t yet caught the scanned Pokemon and need to find out where to look for them. QR codes can be shared, as you’re able to display the code of any Pokemon you’ve already caught for other players to see.
The upcoming Sun and Moon’s Legendary Pokemon include Solgaleo, who uses a move called Sunsteel Strike that has them charge “at an opponent with the force of a meteor,” and Lunala, who shoots an “ominous beam of light” called Moongeist Beam. You can read more here.
Pokemon Sun and Moon release for the 3DS on November 18, 2016. The starter Pokemon–Litten, Popplio, and Rowlett–have already been revealed, and you can check them out right here.
We’ll be able to see more of Pokemon Sun and Moon at E3 2016, where Nintendo plans to show off a live gameplay demo during its Treehouse broadcast.
