Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

After months of rumors and speculation, it has finally been confirmed that Capcom is working on a new game in the mainline Resident Evil series. Unlike its predecessors, the seventh entry takes place entirely from the first-person perspective. It also appears to be returning to its roots, possessing qualities characteristic of traditional survival horror games rather than the third-person shooting action from the series’ more recent entries. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard will launch January, 2017 and will feature PlayStation VR support.

Crackdown 3

Crackdown 3 was surprisingly absent from Microsoft’s E3 press conference, which might’ve worried those wanting to see more considering how little we’ve seen of the game. However, its creative director confirmed in a recent blog post that the game is still very much in development and is now set to release in 2017 as a part of Microsoft’s new Xbox Play Anywhere program. While it remains unclear when the game’s previously announced multiplayer is set to launch, we at least know that the game itself is slated for next year.

Tekken 7

The release of Tekken 7 has been a long time coming; it had initially been released on arcades in 2015. However, director Katsuhiro Harada confirmed at Microsoft’s E3 press conference that the game is expected to release early 2017 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Halo Wars 2

Halo Wars 2 is an upcoming real-time strategy game developed by 343 Industries and Creative Assembly, the studio behind the Total War series. Scalebound

Scalebound is shaping up to be PlatinumGames’ most ambitious game to date; taking a step away from its signature action game formula to create an expansive action-RPG where you fight alongside a powerful dragon. The game was originally slated to release late 2016, but has since been delayed to 2017. Like other games in this list, it’ll also be a part of Microsoft’s Xbox Play Anywhere program.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands first debuted at Ubisoft’s E3 2015 press conference where it stole the show with its vast open world and cooperative multiplayer action. The months that followed gave us an assortment details about the upcoming game, but never a possible release date. That has since changed thanks to Ubisoft’s E3 2016 press conference, which revealed that the game is scheduled to release in March 2017.

For Honor

For Honor was a pleasant surprise from Ubisoft’s E3 press conference last year. Its focus on calculated sword fighting on a war torn battlefield caught our attention; and the spectacle of its knights, Vikings, and samurai fighting to the death was a sight to behold. While last year’s E3 yielded little information on when we can expect to play For Honor, this year’s show confirmed that the game will be launching on February 14, 2017.

Horizon: Zero Dawn

Killzone developer Guerrilla Games’ next game, the PS4-exclusive Horizon: Zero Dawn, is looking to be one of next year’s most exciting adventures. Announced at E3 2015, the game had initially been set to release in 2016. However, it was delayed to ensure its quality, so that it may better live up to the standards of the developer’s previous games.

Platforms: PS4 | Release Date: February 28, 2017

State of Decay 2

State of Decay was a runaway success on Xbox 360, receiving widespread praise for its tense survival-RPG mechanics. That’s why it should come as no surprise that developer Undead Labs announced a sequel at Microsoft’s E3 2016 press conference. Its debut trailer featured the tagline “nobody survives alone,” which could imply that it’ll focus more on cooperative play than its predecessor. State of Decay 2 is expected to launch in 2017 for both Xbox One and PC as a part of Microsoft’s new Xbox Play Anywhere program.
