Awesome New Comics This Week: Super-Man, Civil War, Vision, and More

Every Wednesday, hundreds of new comic books are released, and figuring out what books are worth reading can be a daunting task. Luckily, we’re here to help you out with that. Here are ten upcoming issues, in no particular order, you should consider buying on Wednesday, July 13.

Conan The Slayer #1

Conan is back at Dark Horse. This time, Cullen Bunn (Sinestro) is penning a new series, which features the iconic barbarian meeting up with some old friends and probably swinging a sword at his enemies. Dark Horse has a great record with this character, so this will be a book to check out.

Action Comics #959

Since Action Comics went back to its original numbering, the series has been extremely intense. Doomsday is back, and Superman and Lex Luthor are trying to fight him off. On top of that, Clark Kent has been caught in the crossfire. How are Clark Kent and Superman in the same place at the same time? Hopefully, we’ll find out more this week.

Detective Comics has turned into a really intriguing team book, pairing Batman up with Batwoman and a slew of young vigilantes from Gotham City. Batwoman has to take control of the team this week, as Batman is nowhere to be found. James Tynion has a cool story on his hands that’s larger than just Batman.

Flash #2

The first issue of this new volume of The Flash opened up with a new speedster appearing in town. Who is this character, and will he be a friend or foe to Barry Allen? Writer Joshua Williamson delivers that story as well as having Allen struggle with work. Carmine Di Giandomenico brings his unique style of art to this book which gives the volume a distinctive feel.

New Super-Man #1

A new metahuman is coming to DC Comics. A young man in shanghai has become Superman. We’re interested to see why and how this character came to be. Gene Luen Yang and Viktor Bogdanovic will be helming this new series, and while this book has “Superman” in the title, it’s going to be quite different than what fans are used to.

Nightwing Rebirth #1

Dick Grayson is no longer a super-spy. He’s back to being Nightwing, but this time, he’s working again in Gotham City. We got an early look at the issue, and fans of the character should be happy with this direction. Writer Tim Seeley explained in a recent interview that this is a conflicted character, and the series will have a lot of layers to it.

Millarworld Annual 2016 #1

For years, writer Mark Millar has been building his own world with his individual titles. Now, the creator is reaching out to new writers and artists to take on some of his characters, which include Kick-Ass, Kingsman, and more. This is a really cool project and something that’s never been done before with creator-owned properties.

Civil War II #3

While Civil War II has been a bit of a rollercoaster, each issue has provided some huge, shocking moments that will affect the Marvel Universe for years to come. It looks like the Hulk is back and doing what he does best, which usually involves a bunch of smashing. David Marquez’s art has really stood out in this series, and we can’t wait to see how everything looks this month.

Vision #9

Vision has been an intriguing and disturbing series. Vision and his clan are not a normal family. Aside from the fact they’re not human, they have been involved in murder and betrayal. Tom King and Gabriel Walta have crafted an utterly brilliant series that is unlike anything else at the publisher.

Bloodshot Reborn #15

Currently, Bloodshot Reborn is the best series that Valiant has to offer. Bloodshot has found himself a prisoner, and what’s exciting about this current arc is that readers should be getting a lot more insight into his past and future. This is a great place for new readers to jump on as well.
