Farming Simulator 17 releases later this year, and with it, it brings new vehicles and machinery, animals, crops, and mods on consoles. On top of that, you’ll be able to play as a woman for the very first time in the series’ history.
Focus Home Interactive announced its new push for diversity in a press release, where it said “the ability to play as a female farmer reflects the diversity and ever-expanding industry of agriculture.” When players start a game, they’ll be able to choose their character’s gender and customize their clothes.
Additionally, you’ll be able to hire women workers. Hired help can be assigned to tasks like plowing, fertilizing, and harvesting, so you can divert your focus to other areas of the farm.
Farming Simulator 17 releases for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 25.
Many games have been making a push for diversity. We recently saw Don Bradman’s Cricket 17 add women to the game, while last year’s FIFA 16 was the first time women’s teams had been included in the series.
Uncharted 4 director Neil Druckmann recently said that it is “absolutely” crucial to have characters who are women and people of color in his games. He believes that diversity should be one of the core pillars of game development, alongside gameplay, graphics, and story.
