Xbox One gets YouTube app for launch

A dedicated YouTube app will be available on Xbox One for launch, Microsoft and YouTube announced today. The app will allow users to watch videos in 1080p.

The YouTube app on Xbox One features voice control powered by Kinect for playing, pausing, and fast-forwarding videos. In addition, users can manipulate the app via gesture controls. A dedicated YouTube app is not available on PlayStation 4.

Microsoft said “greater functionality” for the YouTube app on Xbox One will be added in the coming months, including a “Snap mode” where users can watch a video while performing another task.

The YouTube app for Xbox One will be available in all launch regions except Austria, Ireland, and Zealand. The app will be released in those territories “in the coming days,” Microsoft said.
