Demon’s Souls 2? No chance, Atlus says

[UPDATE] In a follow-up email with GameSpot, Hardin clarified his original comments, saying, “While I guess *technically* it’s not impossible, since Sony JP owns the IP, I don’t want anyone to get their hopes up.”

The original story is below.

Atlus PR manager John Hardin has commented on the possibility of a sequel to the 2009’s fiendishly difficult PlayStation 3-exclusive role-playing game Demon’s Souls, and you might not like his answer.

“Can 100 percent confirm there will NOT be a Demon’s Souls 2. :(,” Hardin wrote in the comments section of a PlayStation Blog post.

His comments came in response to a fan who asked if Atlus was going to make Demon’s Souls 2 for the PlayStation 4, but it looks like the game won’t make an appearance on any system. Pressed for an explanation as to why the prospect of Demon’s Souls 2 is grim, Hardin explained that it’s Sony’s decision to make.

“That’s Sony’s call. From what I’ve heard around the Internet’s, Demon’s Souls is one big Gordian knot,” he said.

Demon’s Souls developer From Software has since created spiritual successor Dark Souls and its upcoming sequel Dark Souls II will launch on March 11. For more on Demon’s Souls, check out GameSpot’s review.
