Rendering of Avalanche’s new office in Stockholm
After spending more than a decade in its current location in Sweden, Just Cause and Mad Max developer Avalanche Studios today announced plans to move to a bigger, more modern office.
In partnership with Swedish architecture firm Studio Stockholm, Avalanche Studios said today that work has begun on a new, 32,000 square foot office space that is located just two blocks from where the company’s current office is. The new office will have “greatly increased studio space” and “state-of-the-art” amenities for the company’s 160 employees.
“While we are moving to a brand new space, it’s important for us to remain in the hotbed of game development talent that is central Stockholm” — Avalanche COO Fredrik Sjöö
Avalanche also notes that its new office space will be environmentally conscious, and is expected to receive LEED Platinum certification for its energy efficiency and low environmental impact. The company plans to move in in the fall of 2015 and has signed a five-year lease.
COO Fredrik Sjöö said in a statement that it was critical for Avalanche to remain Stockholm. “While we are moving to a brand new space, it’s important for us to remain in the hotbed of game development talent that is central Stockholm,” he said.
Studio Stockholm partner Marco Checchi said his company is designing Avalanche’s new office space to represent the company’s “distinct outward attitude and “warm and welcoming working atmosphere.” He said, “We intend to manifest that duality in a physical space.”
Avalanche also has an 18,000 square foot office in New York City’s SoHo district, where 90 people come to work every day.
The company says 2015 is going to be the biggest year in its history, though Avalanche only has one planned new release: Mad Max for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC. Avalanche also runs free-to-play hunting game The Hunter, and more than 4 million people have signed up for the game, the company says. Finally, Avalanche teases that it has “several surprises planned for next year.” Could one of these be the company’s long-rumored Just Cause 3 or its comic book game?
