Persona 5, the next edition in Atlus’ cult RPG series, is being developed for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.
Now due to ship next year, Persona 5 was initially conceived as a PS3 game and was targeted for release by the end of 2014. However, developers at the Tokyo-based Atlus are working on a separate PS4 version, which could be responsible for the project’s delay.
The Persona series has become a key asset for Sony since the mid-nineties, with Atlus developing numerous editions on PS1, PS2, PS3 and handhelds. Though many Persona games are critically acclaimed, the PS2 title Persona 4 is widely considered as the flagship edition in the series, and was expanded with various spin-offs such as Persona 4 Arena and a PS Vita edition.
It’s not clear whether Persona 5 will ship on Xbox One or Xbox 360. Gamespot has contacted Atlus for clarification.
