PC gaming is “incredibly important” to Microsoft, according to Xbox boss Phil Spencer. Speaking as part of The Inner Circle‘s latest podcast, Spencer wouldn’t give any details regarding the role Windows 10 might play in the future of Microsoft’s PC gaming efforts, but yet again pledged that the company will support PC gamers in a meaningful way going forward.
“I thought the Windows 10 announce was good. I’ve said gaming on PC is incredibly important to me and I think incredibly important to this company,” he said.
Spencer acknowledged that Microsoft hasn’t done the most for PC gamers in recent years, but pledged to reverse this trend as it looks to the future.
“We took gaming very seriously on Windows a while ago,” he said. “I’ll say we, during the [release of the Xbox], we were kind of distributed in what we were thinking about as we were launching Xbox. I’m really committed to us getting back to supporting both Xbox as much as we ever have, and also PC. Because I know my friends and the customers out there that are great gamers on Xbox are also, a lot of them, are great gamers on PC. And I want to make sure that we’re able to offer them the best experience across all the platforms.”
Back in June, Spencer said “gaming on Windows is critical to Microsoft’s success,” and before that, he admitted that Microsoft needs to do more to support PC gamers, saying part of his job as Head of Xbox is to “bring back our Windows gaming focus.”
Microsoft announced Direct X12, the latest iteration of its graphics API, back in March. However, it’s unclear how else Microsoft plans to re-focus on Windows gaming going forward.
