Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare proved to be the biggest winner on the UK high street during Black Friday, as Activision’s blockbuster FPS returns to top place in the all-format charts.
Sales monitor Chart-Track claims that Advanced Warfare has sold more copies during UK Black Friday than any other title since records began. It also notes that two-thirds of Advanced Warfare sales were for old-gen machines.
Meanwhile Super Smash Bros Wii U misses the top ten (there were local reports of stock shortages), entering at thirteenth. The position would have been lower had Chart-Track not grouped the Wii U version’s sales with the 3DS’s (the Wii U edition accounted for 81 per cent).
Curiously, although Chart-Track does group together Super Smash Bros on handheld and console, it doesn’t do the same with Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire. Those two games enter sixth and seventh respectively, though would have been third had they been counted together.
“Combined they also become the biggest Pokémon launch ever, beating previous best Pokémon Black and White Versions on DS back in 2011,” Chart-Track notes.
In second place is EA’s FIFA 15, another British mainstay buoyed by the shopping frenzy. Those two games push GTA 5 down to third.
Far Cry 4 is in forth, ahead of Assassin’s Creed Unity. Meanwhile, last year’s Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag surges 353% in sales thanks to various console bundle promotions, and hits ninth. Driveclub, meanwhile, climbs to eighth place with a tremendous 999% sales increase off the back of various PlayStation 4 promotions.
