The previously announced Final Fantasy XIII Steam update that introduces new graphics options, including 1080p support, will be released next week for PC. The publisher announced the news in a post to the game’s Steam product page.
“As mentioned recently, the Final Fantasy XIII team have been working hard to improve your experience on Steam and we’re happy to announce that custom resolutions (720p, 1080p…) and graphic options will be added to the game from December 11th 2014,” the developer said.
Currently, Final Fantasy XIII on PC is locked at a maximum resolution of 720p–though a third-party plugin was released that brings the game’s resolution up to 1080p. GameSpot installed Final Fantasy XIII on PC in October and found that configurable options were severely limited. Basically, the game has no graphics options whatsoever, but this is changing next week through the new patch.
The 1080p patch for Final Fantasy XIII will be released alongside Final Fantasy XIII-2, which comes to PC on December 11. That PC version of that game will feature a number of graphics options, including 1080p support, right out of the gate.
Final Fantasy XIII-Lightning Returns is also coming to PC through Steam, and is expected to launch by spring 2015.
