Reports that surfaced earlier today suggested the gold Mario Amiibo, which is exclusive to Walmart, had been delayed from March to April. People who preordered the figure received a message from the retailer notifying them of the pushback. However, this was just a mistake.
“There’s no trouble in the Mushroom Kingdom,” a Walmart representative told GameSpot today. “Mario Amiibo fans will still see Gold on March 20, 2015. Walmart.com pre-order customers may have seen an incorrect availability date in their account, and we’re in the process of correcting that order information to assure fans that there are no delays.”
The Gold Edition Mario Amiibo will be released on March 20 alongside new Wii U game Mario Party 10. It will be sold exclusively in the United States, and you’ll be able to buy it for $13.
As of February, Nintendo had sold more than 5.7 million Amiibo toys. By comparison, Call of Duty publisher Activision has sold in excess of 240 million Skylanders toys so far, though of course this franchise was the first on the scene while Amiibo is just getting started.
