Apple Unveils the iPad Pro

Apple today revealed the next iteration of the iPad called the iPad Pro.

It has a 12.9-inch screen when measured diagonally; when turned it on its side, it’s as tall as the largest existing iPad. Apple claims it features the “most advanced display [it’s] ever built,” and it’s equipped with the new A9X chip.

It also has 10 hours of battery life and four separate speakers which can adjust based on the way you’re holding the device. The device is 6.9 mm thin, compared to 6.1 mm thickness of the iPad Air 2. It weighs 1.57 pounds.

Apple will also offer a Surface-style keyboard (the “Smart Keyboard”) that doubles as a case. This connects using three new connections on the side of the device. There’s also a new stylus designed to work with the iPad Pro called the Apple Pencil. Among the demos for the Pencil was one headed up by–strangely enough–Microsoft, which was there to show its use with its various Office apps.

The Pro comes in silver, gold, and space gray, and is available in three versions: 32 GB Wi-Fi ($799), 128 GB Wi-Fi, ($949), and 128 GB Wi-Fi + Cellular ($1079). The Apple Pencil is $99 and the Smart Keyboard is $169. All of this will be available starting in November.

Alongside this, Apple outlined pricing for existing and other new iPad devices. The Mini 2 now starts at $269; Mini 4 starts at $399; Air starts at $399; and Air 2 starts at $499.

We’ll have more details as they’re made available. Apple is also today expected to announce a new iPhone, the iPhone 6S, as well as a new Apple TV.
