Just in time to prepare for Halloween, survival-horror game The Evil Within will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC this week.
It’s the debut game from Japanese developer Tango Gameworks and is directed by Shinji Mikami, the founder of the studio and creator of the Resident Evil series. If you’re unfamiliar with The Evil Within, Bethesda has released a trailer which helps brings players up to speed on what to expect. Mikami himself has stated that he wishes to “return to survival horror’s roots” with the game.
For those looking to pick it up on the PC, the minimum system requirements were recently detailed, and users with a more powerful machine can crank the framerate up past the 30fps setting, although Bethesda doesn’t recommend it.
Bethesda has announced plans to support the game post-launch with multiple expansion packs that will let players experience the horror from different perspectives. For more on what to expect from The Evil Within, check out our comparison of it with other games in the genre.
Prefer your action to be less of the fright-inducing variety? Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, which has already gone gold, launches this week. Developed by 2k Australia, the game is set on Pandora’s moon before the events of Borderlands 2 and follows the story of how Handsome Jack became a villain.
