BioShock Creator’s Next Game "Highly Creative and Innovative"

While BioShock creator Ken Levine’s new project remains largely a mystery, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has now teased that the game–whatever it turns out to be–will be “highly creative and innovative.”

“I’m not going to steal Ken’s thunder, but we’re thrilled to be in business with Ken,” Zelnick said today at the MKM Partners Investor Day conference in New York City. “What I can say is you would expect that Ken would work on something highly creative and innovative. I think that would be a reasonable expectation for whatever he does next.”

When BioShock developer Irrational Games effectively closed its doors in 2014, Levine and a small team of others started work on a “smaller, more entrepreneurial” game for Take-Two. Levine has since said this game, which runs on Unreal Engine 4, will be about “fluid relationships.”

It’s a sci-fi game set in a brand new universe that isn’t anything like a game from The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones developer Telltale Games. You can check out this post for everything else we know.

As for the BioShock series, it’s now being developed by 2K Games in California. While no new entries in the franchise have been announced, Zelnick said previously that the series still has lots of room to grow commercially and creatively, a point he reiterated today.

“The franchise is in the hands of 2K,” Zelnick said. “They’ll make announcements in due time about any upcoming releases. But BioShock is unquestionably a permanent franchise for our company and one that we do believe in.”
