Call of Duty, GTA 5, and Super Smash Bros. Top Three Games for November

The NPD has released sales data for the top selling games of November in the US, with Activision’s first-person shooter Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare coming out on top. It was followed by Rockstar’s open-world action game Grand Theft Auto V, with Nintendo-exclusive Super Smash Bros. placing third in sales. Last month also saw the Xbox One beat the PS4 in sales in the US and UK.

Figures are for physical retail sales only, and include all platforms. Overall sales across hardware, software and accessories declined 11 percent versus November 2013. PC game sales however increased by 34 percent compared to November 2013, due to the launch of World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor, and continued sales of The Sims 4. Portable game sales increased by 25 percent thanks to the release of Pokemon Alpha Sapphire, Pokemon Omega Ruby, and Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS.

Here are the top 10 games in physical hardware sales from the NPD:

  1. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (360, XBO, PS4, PS3, PC)
  2. Grand Theft Auto V (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3)
  3. Super Smash Bros. (NWU, 3DS)
  4. Madden NFL 15 (360, XBO, PS4, PS3)
  5. Pokemon Alpha Sapphire (3DS)
  6. Far Cry 4 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3, PC)
  7. Pokemon Omega Ruby (3DS)
  8. NBA 2K15 (PS4, 360, XBO, PS3, PC)
  9. Assassin’s Creed: Unity (PS4, XBO, PC)
  10. Halo: The Master Chief Collection (XBO)

NPD Group’s Liam Callahan noted that November 2014 had three platform-exclusive games made the top ten list, while during the same time last year no exclusives made the list.

The lead-up to the Christmas season will only get busier for retail sales, with both Sony and Microsoft rolling out PlayStation 4 and Xbox One bundles respectively.
