Today during a livestream event, Infinity Ward developers talked more about the just-announced Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. They mostly covered everything that was already announced. However, there were some particularly interesting parts, one of which was a reveal of the first image from the game’s Zombies mode.
The cryptic image shows what looks like a film reel, while some popcorn and what might be blood can also be seen. You can also see that the frame mentions “19-ATVI–85.” ATVI is Activision’s stock symbol. It’s possible 19-85 could be a reference to the time period, though this is not confirmed. While Infinite Warfare is set in the future, Zombies modes for previous Call of Duty games have taken place in the past.
You may also notice that the zombie appears to be wearing track and field clothing for some reason.
Also during the stream, Infinity Ward developers teased that Infinite Warfare’s Zombies mode will be “unique and “different,” offering something to players that they haven’t seen from past versions of Zombies. It was also confirmed that Infinite Warfare’s version of Zombies is not connected to the one from Treyarch’s Black Ops series.
The team also said there will be plenty of Easter eggs to be found in Infinite Warfare’s Zombies mode, and mentioned that the first piece of teaser art may even contain some.
Treyarch created the popular Zombies mode, first introducing it with 2008’s Call of Duty: World at War. This will be the first time the mode has been featured in an Infinity Ward-developed Call of Duty game. It’s not the first instance of a developer outside of Treyarch building a Zombies mode, however, as Sledgehammer Games created the Exo Zombies variant for 2014’s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.
Also during the livestream, Infinity Ward provided the following details about Infinite Warfare.
- The nefarious Settlement Defense Front is a “brutal, fascist” group bent on controlling resource outposts in space as part of their effort to put humanity in a “stranglehold.”
- There will be dogfighting sequences in space, as well as ground-based combat.
- There will be zero-G fighting that makes use of some new mechanics to be announced later
- The goal is for Infinite Warfare to feel grounded and believable; there won’t be aliens.
- Brian Bloom (Dragon Age: Inquisition, Wolfenstein: The New Order) voices Lieutenant Reyes, the game’s protagonist.
- The next major news event for Infinite Warfare will be E3 in June.
- At least one multiplayer map is set on a space station; additional maps take players to other planets in addition to Earth.
- Actor David Harewood (Supergirl, Blood Diamond) plays the role of Sgt. Omar.
- There will be a “whole new stable” of multiplayer items to use
Infinite Warfare launches on November 4 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Activision also today announced a remastered version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The only way to get Modern Warfare’s remastered edition is to buy a premium version of Infinite Warfare.
