It’s been a pretty busy San Diego Comic-Con this year, and a lot of new information has been announced for films, games, and TV shows. Marvel is getting in on the action, as well, and today the company released the first trailer for its upcoming TV show, Legion.

Legion is a new drama that follows the Marvel superhero Legion–also known as David Haller, a troubled man who was diagnosed with schizophrenia. As you see in the trailer, however, it appears that the voices he hears and visions he sees might not be figments of his mind, but glimpses of real events. Check out the trailer in the embed above.

The trailer focuses heavily on the psychological aspect of Legion’s persona, playing up his struggle with his mental disorder. The trailer also suggests that the show might play with the audience’s expectations of chronology and continuity. Perhaps, since David Haller can’t perceive the world normally, it’ll subvert the viewers’ own perceptions.

The TV show is a joint production of Marvel and FX. Its creator is Noah Hawley, the creator of Fargo. You can read a bit more about what you can expect from the show here. The first episode will air sometime in early 2017. It stars Dan Stevens as Legion, as well as Rachel Keller, Jean Smart, Katie Aselton, Jeremie Harris, Amber Midthunder, Bill Irwin, and Aubrey Plaza.

As a superhero, Legion’s been around in the Marvel universe for a fairly long time. He’s the son of Professor Xavier, the creator of the X-Men. He first appeared in a comic in 1985 and later became a recurring character in the X-Men series. However, Marvel has confirmed that the TV show will not take place in the timeline of the recent X-Men films.
