Custom PS4 Dubbed "GayStation 4" Auctioned for $4,000 To Support LGBT Group

The auction for the Sony “GayStation” 4, a custom-made rainbow PlayStation 4, has ended. After more than 180 bids, the system was sold for 28,300 Swedish kroner (about $4,105), with all proceeds supporting the Swedish Federation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Rights (RFSL).

A standard PS4 sells for $400 in the United States, £349 in the U.K., and €399 in Europe.

Specifically, the funds from the “GayStation” 4 auction will go to RFSL Newcomers, described as a network for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex asylum seekers and refugees. The console was sold through Swedish retailer Webhallen.

“For many young people, the world of games will become a refuge to escape the taunting or worse of real life,” Webhallen said last month when the auction began.”On Webhallen, we are gamers in heart and mind, and are keen that as many as possible have the opportunity to feel welcome and enjoy the world’s largest and fastest growing interest: video games.”
