A release date for Darksiders II “Deathinitive” Edition, a remastered version of the 2012 action-adventure game for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, has not been officially announced by publisher Nordic Games. However, major United States retailers agree that the title will launch on October 27.
That’s the date listed on the Deathinitive Edition product pages on Amazon, GameStop, Best Buy, and Walmart. We spoke with a representative for Nordic Games about the game’s release date, but they were not able to confirm the date right away. We’ll update this post if we hear something definitive.
The new version of Darksiders II is in development at Gunfire Games, which is staffed “almost entirely” by people who worked on the original Darksiders at developer Vigil Games. It runs at 1080p on both Xbox One and PS4.
“This isn’t a simple port,” the developer said on its website. “We’ve put a lot of time to improve both the visuals and gameplay to make it on par with current releases. It’s been fun adding more polish to a game that is near and dear to our hearts.”
For more, check out these comparison images that show much the game has improved since we last saw it in 2012. If the October 27 release date is genuine, it means the game will ship on the same day as Halo 5.
Looking ahead, Nordic Games–which acquired the Darksiders franchise from THQ when the company went bankrupt–has said it has plans for a third game in the series.
