Dead Rising 3 and Monster Hunter 4 lead Capcom to profit

Xbox One launch title Dead Rising 3 has now shifted 1.2 million copies, Capcom has said, meaning the title has hit its internal sales target.

But it’s the Japanese release of Monster Hunter 4 that’s really done the business for Capcom for the financial year ended March 31. Released last September in Japan, the 3DS title has seen 4.1 million sales on its home turf. Capcom praised the title for its “explosive popularity” and was delighted to report that it saw “long lines forming at major retailers across the nation since the release date.”

What about Capcom’s other recent titles? Resident Evil Revelations shifted over 1 million copies, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen sales were “firm”, DuckTales Remastered experienced an “over-performance” and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Dual Destinies “basically achieved” its sales target.

Lost Planet 3, however, failed to meet expectations. Poor Lost Planet 3. Capcom blamed its poor sales on intense competition in the US and European markets.

All in all, Capcom saw its profits rise almost 16 percent to 3.4 billion yen ($33.4m/£19.7m). Overall sales came in at 102 billion yen ($1 bn/£591m).

We don’t know much about what Capcom has got planned for the next year outside of free-to-play PS4 adventure Deep Down. Capcom isn’t telling, either, but did say it will focus on its mobile gaming business and online-focused PC titles in the coming year.
