Destiny Exclusive to PS3, PS4 In Japan

Bungie’s upcoming first-person shooter Destiny will be exclusive to PlayStation platforms in Japan, according to a Sony Computer Entertainment Japan press release issued today and translated by Kotaku.

The announcement heralds a deal between Sony and Destiny publisher Activision that brings the game exclusively to PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 on September 11. The PS4 has been available in Japan since February, while the Xbox One launches in the country on September 4.

It’s unclear if Destiny will be exclusive to PS3 and PS4 in Japan for the life of the title, or if Sony and Activision have agreed to a timed exclusivity deal. We have reached out to an Activision representative for comment.

Activision and Sony already have an established relationship for Destiny. The game was featured front-and-center at Sony’s E3 press conference last week, during which Sony even announced a special $450 Glacier White PS4 bundle that includes a 500GB system and a copy of Destiny. On top of that, the PlayStation versions of Destiny will receive a series of “exclusive” digital bonuses. Further still, it’s rumored that Sony will even bundle copies of Destiny with PS4s later this year.

Destiny launches September 9 in North America for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4. A beta for the game kicks off on July 17, first on PlayStation systems. For more, check out GameSpot’s previous coverage.
