Eidos Montreal’s upcoming role-playing game, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, will address one of the major complaints levelled at its predecessor by allowing players to deal with bosses in multiple ways.
Unlike Deus Ex: Human Revolution, which forced players to engage in firefights with boss characters, even if their character was developed to be a stealth operative, the sequel is “all about supporting all the different play aspects.”
“That was the main thing that was missing from the boss fights [in Human Revolution],” said gameplay director Patrick Fortier, speaking to OXM. “Thematically, I think they were interesting, but certain players found a challenge there that wasn’t really catered to them.
“There are ways to stealth them, there are ways to beat them in combat and there are conversations that you can have that maybe give you a different means of dealing with the situation altogether.”
Mankind Divided takes place in 2029, two years after the events of Human Revolution. Since the previous games, the relationship between mechanically augmented humans and non-augmented humans has become envenomed.
Returning protagonist Adam Jensen is now faced with dealing with terrorist groups demanding equality with humans, as well as the shadowy group that has been pulling the strings behind the events of both games.
At E3 2015, Square Enix showed off 25 minutes worth of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided gameplay. Be warned, however, since the gameplay shows a full mission from the game, it may be considered a spoiler.
