Dying Light Getting Enhanced Edition; Upgrades Free for Existing Players

Techland today announced plans to release an improved version of Dying Light next year in the form of an Enhanced Edition, though it’ll also be offering these improvements for free to those with the existing game.

Dying Light: The Following – Enhanced Edition consists of an “enhanced” version of the base game, the new expansion pack The Following, and every DLC and content update released to date. That includes the Bozak Horde and Be the Zombie modes, as well as the Cuisine & Cargo challenge missions and Ultimate Survivor Bundle.

In terms of enhancements, the trailer above briefly highlights some of them–better graphics and enemy AI, new parkour moves, and so on. Many of them are vague-sounding, like “audio upgrades” and “gameplay quality improvements,” and as such it remains unclear how meaningful the changes will be. But Techland is playing up the fact that this isn’t “another Game of the Year Edition,” so it’s clearly trying to set expectations high.

“We didn’t want to follow a beaten track and just re-release our game in a new wrapping with the current DLC added on,” lead game designer Maciej Binkowski said in a statement. “That’s why for the last half year we’ve been working on a ton of enhancements that we’re now going to make available to everyone. We’re adding bonus post-game content, a Nightmare difficulty level, nearly 100 new animations, new NPC models, advanced AI behaviors, and more. One year after the original release, Dying Light will be even bigger.”

Enhanced Edition will be released digitally and at retail on February 6, 2016 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC for $60. The Following will also be released on the same day as a standalone download for those that have the original version. Those players will also receive all of the aforementioned enhancements free of charge.
