Final Fantasy 8 Remix Album Out Now, Listen to Samples Here

While Final Fantasy fans still have a while longer to wait until Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy VII Remake are released, they can now pick up a new album featuring remixes from the Final Fantasy VIII soundtrack.

Released this week, Successor: Final Fantasy VIII Remixed is a six-disc, multi-hour collection that was created by more than 150 composers, arrangers, and YouTube personalities (full credit list here) who have provided their own take on the game’s soundtrack. It was originally composed by Nobuo Uematsu, but the new arrangements are described by production company Materia Collective as “unique and imaginative.”

That is indeed the case, as you can hear for yourself in preview samples embedded in this post.

As its name suggests, Successor is the second Final Fantasy music remix album from Materia. The first, Materia: Final Fantasy VII Remixed, was released in October 2015.

“After our debut album Materia, choosing Final Fantasy VIII as a follow-up tribute album was the next logical choice, and aligning the release with the game’s release anniversary seemed poignant,” Materia founder Sebastian Wolff said in a statement. “Final Fantasy VIII is musically distinct, and its eclectic mix of music suited our diverse skillsets.”

Successor is available on a number of digital music platforms, including iTunes, Google Play, and Loudr.

This was a special week for Final Fantasy VIII, as February 11 was the the seventeenth anniversary of the day the game was released in North America in 1999.
