Grand Theft Auto Online servers for the PlayStation 4 version of Rockstar’s crime-ridden open-world action game are currently unavailable.
Although no reason is given for the downtime, the official GTA Online server status page acknowledges there is currently “limited” online gameplay functionality.
A timeframe for when players can expect to have services restored has not been specified.
Grand Theft Auto Online servers for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PC have not been affected.
In December 2015 Rockstar released the Executives and Other Criminals update for GTA Online. This lets players become a “VIP” and then establish their own crime ring. The update, which is available for free on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC (but not Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3), also adds new gameplay modes and luxury-themed items.
It has been estimated that Valve’s Steam platform generated close to $3 billion in total game sales during 2015, with Grand Theft Auto 5 singlehandedly selling about 3.8 million units, a figure that equates to $160 million.
Fallout 4, meanwhile, sold around 2.7 million units and amassed $122.5 million. Konami’s Metal Gear Solid 5 is believed to have made $41 million, and The Witcher 3 brought in $38 million.
These figures are estimates based on independent marketplace analysis by Steam Spy owner Sergey Galyonkin.
