How Did Ratchet & Clank Movie Do This Weekend? The Numbers Are In

The animated Ratchet & Clank movie, based on the long-running Insomniac Games video game franchise, came to theaters on Friday. Critics were generally not kind. But how did it fare at the US box office?

According to Deadline, Ratchet & Clank (which was shown in 2,891 theaters) pulled in $4.7 million for the Friday-Sunday period. It made $1.4 million on Friday, $1.99 million on Saturday, and $1.3 million on Sunday. The budget for Ratchet & Clank is not known.

Deadline reports that Ratchet & Clank was challenged by Disney’s The Jungle Book, which is positioned at a similar demographic. The Jungle Book remained the top film at box office, taking in $42.4 million in its third weekend since opening on April 15.

It’s been the No. 1 film every weekend since it premiered. Reviews for the film, directed by Iron Man‘s Jon Favreau, have also been generally positive.

Ratchet & Clank features the voices of James Arnold Taylor (Ratchet) and David Kaye (Clank), who also bring the characters to life in the games. Other actors whose voices are heard in the movie include Paul Giamatti, Rosario Dawson, John Goodman, Sylvester Stallone, and Bella Thorne.

Ratchet & Clank was directed by Kevin Munroe (TMNT) and Jericca Cleland (Space Chimps), with a story written by game series scribe TJ Fixman.
