Just Cause Movie Can Match Fast and Furious-Style Action, Producer Says

We haven’t heard much about the Just Cause movie for quite some time, but that changes today. Producer Adrian Askarieh says in a new interview that the movie is “close” to getting started. He also talked about how the Just Cause film will take inspiration from the action-oriented Just Cause 3, due out in December.

“Just Cause 3 has a terrific story,” Askarieh told IGN. “It has Rico going back to Medici, the place of his birth and then subsequent displacement, and the murder of his family. And he goes back there to do what he does best which is to discombobulate regimes.”

The overall concept of “creating chaos from within” is an exciting prospect for a film, too, Askarieh said.

“And in terms of action, I think Just Cause has just as much right to be called an action movie as The Fast and Furious,” he explained. “They’re both outlandish.”

Concerning a filming start-date for the Just Cause picture, Askarieh wasn’t ready to commit to anything, saying only that “we’re close.” He added that if his other new movie, the critically panned Hitman: Agent 47, does well enough, shooting could start earlier.

According to data on Box Office Mojo, Agent 47 has made $63.2 million against a $35 million production budget.

Askarieh has also told IGN that he’s dreaming of a shared movie universe in which the Just Cause, Hitman, and Lara Croft franchises exist in the same world, with Deus Ex in the future and Thief in the past. The producer currently owns the rights to Hitman, Deus Ex, Just Cause, and Thief–but not Tomb Raider.

There are new installments in all of those film franchises currently in production. For more on all the video game movies currently in production, check out this image gallery.

Just Cause 3 launches on December 1 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
