Actor Christopher Lee is best known for his many film roles throughout the years, including evil wizard Saruman in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. But the 92-year-old also runs his own metal label, Charlemagne Productions, and has released a new, metal-themed Christmas single every year since 2012.
Well, it’s Christmas season again, so Lee is back with his latest, “Darkest Carols, Faithful Sing.” It’s based on the classic Christmas tune, “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” though with a darker, heavier tone.
Lee puts his deep, booming voice to great use on this track, which you can hear a snippet of starting at the 1:50 mark in the video above. If you like what you hear, you can buy the full song on iTunes, Amazon, or Google Play for about $1.
The guitar work on “Darkest Carols” was done by Hedras Ramos, a 21-year-old Guatemalan guitar prodigy with some serious chops.
Lee, who became the oldest heavy metal artist in history last year with “Jingle Hell,” explained in an interview with Blabbermouth that he’s invigorated by the music-making process.
“At my age, the most important thing for me is to keep active by doing things that I truly enjoy,” he said. “I do not know how long I am going to be around, so every day is a celebration and I want to share it with my fans.”
