Metal Band Avenged Sevenfold’s Mobile Game Out This Summer

American metal band Avenged Sevenfold’s mobile game, an action adventure title called Hail to the King: Deathbat, will launch for mobile devices this summer, once testing is complete, the group has announced.

“We’re trying to do something that hasn’t really been done before,” Avenged Sevenfold singer M. Shadows told TechRadar. “We’re trying to compact basically a mini console game and stick it in mobile. And we’re not sure if that audience even exists yet for something like that.”

Though you might first associate Deathbat’s visual style with Blizzard Entertainment’s popular Diablo series, Shadows points out that the game is aiming to stand on its own by meshing popular genres together to form something new. Levels, which are based on songs (“Unholy Confessions” and “Bat Country” are two), will require skills like timing and balance, Shadows said.

You can play a grim reaper-like hero, or one of the members of the band. Late drummer The Rev’s family gave the band permission to have him appear posthumously in the game. The Rev, whose real name is James Sullivan, died in 2009 from an accidental overdose.

Avenged Sevenfold is no stranger to video games. Various Avenged Sevenfold songs are featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops titles, most recently with “Carry On” in Call of Duty: Black Ops II.

They aren’t the first group to release a video game, however. OK Go created a mobile game called Say the Same Thing, while Fall Out Boy released a Flappy Bird clone earlier this year called Fall Out Bird.
